ipdata answers one question about any IP address, in one call: where it is, who runs the network behind it, which mobile carrier it belongs to, what time zone, currency and languages go with it, and whether it hides behind a VPN or sits on a blocklist.
ipdata launched in 2017 on a handful of geographically distributed AWS EC2 servers. It grew to run in fifteen AWS regions around the world, close to the people calling it, answering in under 40 ms without a cache or a CDN in the way. How the infrastructure is built is written up on the AWS Startups Blog.
The API started with geolocation and open-source threat intelligence, IP-to-company lookups and internationalization data, and now carries anonymity detection, reputation scores, mobile carriers, network classification and an extended ASN API, with every attribute defined on the geolocation page.
More than 20,000 developers use it, at companies like Disney, Comcast, McKinsey and Deloitte.
